MID-SEASON REPORT

Apologies are required for the lack of race stories for the past four events.  As the Director of the Sportsman Motorcycle Class, along with my other (excessive) responsibilities, I’ve stretched myself a bit thin and haven’t found the time to write until now.  In my absence, a “team effort” has kept the class together – accurately keeping track of race results so I can update the points.  Special thanks to Mike Pettit and George Brooks for making things run smoothly, and extra special thanks to Scott Tucker for making up the elimination ladders for each event….All this time and I still can’t figure that one out!!

I’d like to thank everyone that participates in this class.  There have been difficulties due to equipment errors, dial-in errors, and some controversial disqualifications (not to mention the excessive amount of re-runs), but all in all, I think it’s been a very good, competitive class.  Everyone seems to enjoy themselves and there is rarely a dispute between individual racers.  They tried this class several years ago and it just didn’t work out…Hopefully we’ve got it right this time.  Remember, if anyone has any suggestions, please bring them to my attention – we’ll fix what we can and pretend it doesn’t bother us if we can’t!!

For anyone who said the sportbikes can’t compete (and win) against the bikes with wheelie bars…Well, just take a look at the standings!!  The snowmobiles piloted my Mike and Tonya Pettit are becoming quite bothersome also…Good job guys!!

Before we get to the next part, I’d like to publicly thank Mike Billington – the owner of Eureka Motorsports Center.  Not only is he a great sponsor to Black & White Motorsports, he’s a great supporter of the Sportsman Motorcycle Class and the Samoa Dragstrip.  Also, special thanks to Ken, Rexanne, Rockey, and the whole crew at Redwood Harley-Davidson, without their support the class would never have gotten off the ground.  For those of us that don’t get much of a chance to see Greg Pfau – the owner of Humboldt Performance Cycle, make sure you thank him when you do.  Like Eureka Motorsports Center and Redwood Harley-Davidson, Humboldt Performance Cycle has been with us from the beginning.  At the end of the season, a lucky racer is going to get some cash and a HUGE Championship trophy from Greg….Make sure you attend the awards banquet at the end of the year.  Now if we could just get Greg out there racing with us…

Personally, special thanks to my friend and teammate – “Bomber John” Widmann.  As a two-time NHRA Division 7 Champion, he has forgotten more about drag racing than many of us will ever know.  His willingness to help other racers, share his knowledge, and “tutor” racers that will make an effort to pay attention does not go unnoticed.  Speaking for everyone that has ever benefited from his help…Thanks.  Now, go out and win another Division 7 Championship!!!

To give people credit where credit is due, following are the results from the last (4) races.  Again, sorry it took so long to get anything written – maybe I should stop racing so much so I can pay attention to my duties at Samoa…..Never mind, that’s not gonna happen!!
