BOSS ELIMINATOR XXVII – JULY 24, 2005
With no
worries about weather and near perfect conditions for racing (and marriage proposals),
hundreds of spectators and fans were treated to another day of great racing,
close finishes, and plenty of excitement while watching the closely matched
field of Sportsman Motorcycle racers.
During
qualifications, Kirk Speelman earned #1 Qualifier
status by posting a .019 reaction time, which also resulted in his award of a
bye run in Round #1. During the lunch
break, #3 qualifier Hans Tautscher
stunned the crowd by proposing marriage to his long-time girlfriend Kim Brown –
on bended knee at the starting line!!
When starter Tom Sanders presented the ring, Kim said “Yes” and both
were greeted by well wishers with words of encouragement, advice, and
understanding apologies (to Kim as Hans left the celebration early to get ready
for Round #1….).
In the
semi-finals, Speelman defeated Jeremiah Grant –
advancing to the final round where he met Wayne Cox of Black & White Motorsports. Cox had
earlier defeated George Brooks Sr. in their semi-final match up.
Cox,
who may have been “extra nervous”, or maybe just “over excited” about his 1st
final round appearance of the year, left the starting line a LOT to
early (-.033) and handed Speelman the final round
victory.
With
only 51 points separating #2 through #7 in the points
standings, the 2nd half of the 2005 season promises to be just as
exciting as the 1st half. The
big question remains... Can anyone catch “Bomber” John Widman
and unseat him from his #1 position for the points
championship?
The
next events, scheduled for August 13th and 14th, will
undoubtedly kick off the 2nd half of the season with a bang!!!
