KING OF THE HILL – JULY 9, 2005

Again…

Again, the Samoa Dragstrip experienced weather patterns more reminiscent of the “Twilight Zone” than a race track.   The day started with rain, followed by fog – to be replaced by bright sunshine…then fog, sun, and finally, as the final rounds were being contested – RAIN AGAIN.

And again… “Bomber” John Widmann defeated the field by winning his 4th final round victory of the season.  In the final, Widmann defeated Hans Tautscher, catching him just prior to the speed trap and “pedaling” his way to another first place trophy.  Earlier in the day, Widmann earned #1 Qualifier honors by posting a .040 reaction time during qualifications.  Semi-Finalists were James Surber and Wayne Cox.

Widmann, who has been nearly unbeatable this season – not only at Samoa but throughout the entire West Coast (he recently won his 10th “Wally” Trophy at the Wells Fargo Fire and Thunder NHRA National Open in Woodburn, Oregon!!!) explained his success by simply stating, “This season, my bad luck has just been good!”

That may be true, but “luck” isn’t entirely responsible for his large collection of 1st place trophies and quick influx of 1st place prize money!!!

The next race, the 1st annual Snap-On Tools Eliminator, is scheduled for July 10, 2005.  Hopefully, the Snap-On Toolman will bring the sunshine with him!!
