Sportsman
Motorcycle Class
With
perfect weather for racing and an adjusted altitude of only 100’, fourteen
motorcycle racers competed for the Championship at the Samoa Dragstrip’s Run-Tuff Eliminator.
James
Surber, riding his 2005 Harley-Davidson V-Rod
Destroyer topped all competitors with an impressive .009 reaction time during
qualifications – taking home the coveted #1 Qualifier award.
Surber
was ultimately eliminated in the semi-finals by Wayne Cox. Cox’s Black & White Motorsports
teammate, John Widmann, advanced to the final round
by defeating weekly nemesis Mire Pires of Unlucky
Racing (Rd. 1), hard-luck racer Kirk Speelman, who
was undoubtedly frustrated by three re-runs during the
day (Rd. 2), and Pires’ Unlucky Racing teammate Mike
Burns (Rd. 3).
Cox
and Widmann accomplished their team goal by meeting
in an all Black & White Motorsports final round
but the much anticipated showdown was put off to another day as Cox’s
motorcycle suffered a mechanical failure in the burnout box.
Widmann
stated, after his winning solo pass, “That’s a shame, I really wanted to race
for it. But you know what? That’s racing! I’ve been the guy that broke at the line
before and there’s nothing you can do – except come back next weekend and try
again.”
The
next event, the Competition Eliminator, is scheduled for May 14, 2006.
