Two time Division 7 motorcycle champion “Bomber” John Widmann – who recently won the motorcycle division at Sacramento Raceway Park’s “Funny Car Fever” event – continued his winning ways by capturing the #1 qualifier award and the 1^st place trophy in the first race of the 2005 season.

Under dark skies with the threat of rain, Widmann defeated Hans Tautscher in the final round by running 9.018 on a 9.01 dial-in. The win was also exemplified by good sportsmanship, as Tautscher’s motorcycle suffered a mechanical failure in the semi-finals. Rather than winning the final round by default, Widmann and fellow racer Greg Pfau worked feverishly to repair Tautscher’s motorcycle – which was finished just as the motorcycles were being called to the starting line. Semi-finalists were George Brooks Sr. and Wayne Cox.

Congratulations to “Bomber” John Widmann – his good nature, sportsmanship, and winning ways represent the Samoa Dragstrip well as he competes in events throughout the Western United States.
